Hello,

So Christmas is all done really, it goes by so fast!  All the build up and then gone.  I hope you enjoyed yours, mine was lovely, spent with family and it was nice to relax for a bit and have a change from regular life.  There was also a lot of eating going on hmmm ;)……..still back to normalish now, and it's time to look forward to the New Year ahead which hopefully will be a good one for all!
I thought I'd post some of the last of my Instagram images from the Advent project.  I had a lot of fun doing it and it felt a bit strange once it was all done.  I may well do something similar again in the future.

The above image was my Christmas card for this year and below is all the work from the project.

So all that's left to say is have a very Happy New Year!  Whatever your plans I hope you enjoy and have a fantastic start to 2016! x

Tuesday 22 December 2015

Hello,

So Christmas is getting ever closer and I've been getting everything together ready for the break.  Yesterday I finished the last of the work for my Advent Calendar over on Instagram so just three more days to go!  I've had a lot of fun doing that little project.  It's the first time I've done something like that and it feels a bit weird now all the work is finished especially as It seems like I've been working on it for a long time.  There has been so much Christmas drawing all in a relatively short space of time.  I'm sure i'll end up doodling some sprouts or something over Christmas :).  I'm looking forward to having some sketchbook doodling time which doesn't happen often enough.  So here's some of the work from the past week or so.

A Partridge in a Pear Tree

I hope you have a lovely break and Christmas.  I'll be post the rest after the big day!  Now off to cook and present wrap! :)

Sunday 13 December 2015

Hello,

So in the last week I've been drawing more Christmas images for my Advent Calendar Instagram challenge here.  I'm having lots of fun doing this little project although it is a busy time of year so it's been a challenge to fit it around everything else, still, so far so good :).  It's good to be pushed to create the work fast and then move on.
An image I knew I wanted to make from day one was something based around the film Scrooge starring Alastair Sim.  I always watch a lot of films based on A Christmas Carol at Christmastime but this one is my favourite, black and white, crackly and very atmospheric.  I also wanted to take something that was authentic to the book, and the ghostly image of Jacob Marley appearing in the doorknob of Scrooge's home before his night of visitations is one of my favourites.  Apart from that there's quite a lot of food this week!  I hope you enjoy this weeks selection.

Mince Pie

Baubles

Gingerbread Biscuits

A Christmas Carol - Jacob Marley

Hot Chocolate
I'll be back next week with the next batch of images.  I think I heard it may snow here tomorrow!!  Brrrr.  Have a great week!

Sunday 6 December 2015

Hello,

So It's December which means Christmas is on it's way.  I've decided to do a little project over on Instagram.  I'm going to post something I've made everyday, based on the theme of Christmas throughout December until the 25th.  A kind of Advent Calendar thingy.  I've wanted to do some sort of challenge for a while now and this seemed like a good time.  So far I have to say I am really enjoying it.  It's a great way to challenge myself creatively as I have to work fast and make quick decisions about my work.  Most of the pieces will be created now but there will be a few blasts from the past also.
So here's a selection from week one.

Mistletoe

Wreath

Mulled Wine

Turkey

I have a whole list of Christmas related stuff that I made to draw from and I'm adding to and deleting from as I go on.  The great thing about doing something like this is that I can just pick what I feel like doing as and when so the order changes and I'm always working with the next two in mind.  The turkey was particularly enjoyable to draw.  I'm from Norfolk originally where we are supposedly overrun with Turkeys although I hardly remember seeing any!  They are fascinating to draw I have to say.  This one is a Norfolk Bronze and I nicknamed Mr Gobble because I like to do things like that!
So back to thinking about the next images.
Have a great week :).

Monday 2 November 2015

Hello,

I thought I'd do a quick update with some things I've been working on.  Firstly as it was Halloween I created the work below.  It was great to get totally carried away with pattern and all the decoration which I always enjoy.  I always find it fun to work on a theme like this where i just get carried away in my own imagination.

Halloween
I also created the piece below.  This was inspired by a dream I had recently that was very vivid and stayed with me.  Sometimes when this happens I really feel the need to get it down on paper as it reminds me of a very specific time in my life.  Totally self indulgent but sometimes you feel the need :).
Have a good week x

Wednesday 16 September 2015

Hello!
It’s been a busy few months.  I moved house in May and I’m very happy with my new flat, the first that is actually mine yippee!  After YEARS of renting it is really nice to have something that I can do whatever I like with and really make it home.  Living in London I was also beginning to doubt whether I would ever be able to buy, so this coming along has been a bit of a surprise also, sometimes things come along so unexpectedly!  It’s the kind of place though, that needs a lot of work and love.  Pretty much everything needs to be done which has taken up a lot of time organising, doing, and whatnot, but I think I’m finally getting on track.
So finally here’s some of what I’ve been up to just lately, drawing more food.  I am a bit obsessed with sandwiches, I make them most days in some way or another, they are the perfect easy food for me and lunch.  At the moment I’ve only been drawing sandwiches that I would actually eat but I may start expanding on that.  I loved playing around with the pattern, shapes and textures of these and I haven’t done much work with type so that’s been a fun challenge.
Smoked Salmon and cream cheese bagel

Mackerel Pate

This is just a piece based around my love of exercise (yes I am one of those freaks :)).  I really wanted to experiment with different mark making and combining various materials.  I’ve been using a lot more crayon and oil pastel just lately and I’m really enjoying working with these, scratching on and off and combining with pencil and paint.  I love working with different materials all at once (and generally making a lot of mess!), still the carpet is going…………

Finally these couple of pics are from my lovely garden, shared but very spacious and lovely, I feel so lucky.  Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to spend a lot of time there this year but next year for sure!  Hopefully now my posts will be a more frequent!
Bye for now and have a lovely rest of the week :)

Sunday 18 January 2015

Hello,

So I've been drawing food again, adding to the sandwich collection.  I had a lot of fun with this one, combining the colours and marks and making patterns from the ingredients.  This is a really delicious combination (i think!) again there is some carrot, it works really well and just adds a little sweetness.
Also this week I finally got to the Egon Schiele exhibition at the Courtauld Gallery just before it was due to finish.  I'm so pleased I did, I really do love his work so it was a real treat for me.
Have a great week!

Saturday 3 January 2015

Hello and Happy new year!
So it's the start of another year.  I have to say the last one was an amazing for me, with lots of good things happening.  So here's my first new pieces of work for the year.  These are part of a little personal project I'm working on called 'My sandwich today'.  It's just a little project I've set up for myself as I love drawing food and I do like sandwiches.  They are all going to be sandwiches that I eat so all non meat and plenty of carrot, yep that goes in a lot of them!  Some people think my ingredients are a little odd but I don't think so and they make yummy sandwiches in my opinion.  So here are the first two.  Hope you are having a great start to the year!
